2015 First Strides Vermont will kick off May 6th and continue every Wednesday for 12 weeks as always. Registration will open March 1st.
Thanks for joining us in 2014! We’re looking forward to walking and running with you in the new year!!
Mentor bios are up (with a few additions on the way!). Get to know your mentors better. Which ones will you get to walk and run with for the next 10 weeks? You really can’t go wrong with this line-up!
Congrats to all who braved the chilly rain and got out for a fantastic first day of First Strides today! Such an inspirational group already and we’ve just begun. As promised, we have posted the training schedule and a few other items on our “handouts” page. Check it out and remember to do your homework: http://firststridesvermont.com/handouts/
The registration page is up for First Strides Vermont® 2014! The sooner you sign up, the sooner warmth and sunshine will arrive, we guarantee 😉 April 24th is the final deadline to receive the early bird rate of $45.
Lots of fun new info coming soon!
When Randi and I moved to Vermont in 2000, apart from our friends, one of the things I missed most about our life in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania was First Strides. I couldn’t convince our friends to move to Vermont–go figure!–but I could bring First Strides to the Champlain Valley.
We started with just 26 participants and three dedicated, awesome Mentors in 2004. In 2009 we soared past 100 registered participants. We broke 150 in 2012. I’ve heard many, many wonderful stories of how First Strides has helped women be healthier, reach fitness goals they never thought possible, and find the inspiration and courage to survive and emerge on the other side of the challenges and turmoil life sometimes sends our way.
I’ve also been truly privileged to share in the amazing energy, enthusiasm and countless hours of dedication from dozens of volunteer Mentors over the ten years I’ve led First Strides.
So thanks to all of the participants, Mentors, speakers and sponsors for all of the fun and inspiration you’ve shared with me since 2004. I’m proud of the program we’ve built here, and now it’s time to hand the clipboard over to someone who has the time and energy to make it even better.
That’s why I’m thrilled to announce that Kasie Enman will be leading First Strides starting this year.
- Kasie Enman
The first time I became aware of Kasie was many years ago on her wedding day when she won the Women’s Round Church Run–wearing her veil. Since then she has become a mother of two, run an Olympic Marathon Trial, been a National and World Mountain Running Champion, won the Keybank Vermont City Marathon and coached Track and Field at CVU–among other accomplishments! Kasie is currently the GMAA running coach and only recently “retired” after eight years as race director of the Women’s Round Church Run. Whew! I’m exhausted just typing all that, and I’m really glad Kasie has found time for First Strides in her busy schedule.
Welcome, Kasie, and thanks to everyone for a wonderful ten years of First Strides!
Hey First Striders! Don’t let the forecast scare you away. Many times we’ve driven out of thunderstorms in Burlington and elsewhere to find clear blue skies in Williston. You must show up to get credit for class! We promise to consider your safety above all else.
See you tonight — with a raincoat!
We’ve topped out at 171 participants, and we are closed to new participants! If you missed this year, we hope to see you in 2013.
The weather forecast is looking great for this Wednesday, so come ready to move, meet new friends, and have fun!
We’ll be starting class at 5:45 sharp, so please arrive early if possible to allow time for parking and attendance check-in. Please bring your payment ($45 cash or check payable to Michele Morris) if you haven’t already sent it in.
We’ve posted some handouts to get you started and give you and idea of what’s coming in the weeks ahead.
More coming soon!
